I've no idea how to debug but if I remove ibus then all is ok again
Packages removed initially -
ibus
ibus-pinyin
ibus-table
unity-control-center
unity-control-center-signon
webaccounts-extension-common
xul-ext-webaccounts

Then adding back ibus & unity-control-center & it returns so I'd place issue somewhere with ibus
