@unimatrix: I can still reproduce this in the Human theme, but it isn't happening for me in Ambiance or Radiance. It is probably a window manager thing on your end; Compiz does strange things with mouse events on the edge of the screen, especially when you turn on the hot corners stuff.
(I use Metacity).

As for the window buttons, that was discussed in another bug report and a decision was reached to intentionally shrink the corner button's clickable area. (In essence, it shouldn't be that easy to close a window).
