I've picked up this as well in /var/log/cups/error_log :

E [26/Jul/2011:03:07:37 +0200] Unable to remove temporary file "/var/spool/cups/tmp/.hplip" - Is a directory
E [26/Jul/2011:03:07:49 +0200] Unable to remove temporary file "/var/spool/cups/tmp/.hplip" - Is a directory

This seems to actually cause cups to stop running under certain conditions.

My system info:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release: 10.04
Codename: lucid

cups: 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2

To the developers of HPLIP at HP: Can you make sure that the CUPS filters and backends do not generate a personal configuration directory? These do not run as the user who sent the original print job but as the system user "lp". So it does not make sense to create the configuration directory. In addition, CUPS is not prepared to have subdirectories in its temporary file directory /var/spool/cups/tmp/.

Hello again Jérôme,
Thank you for submitting this other bug and reporting a problem with the hplip package. You made this bug report in 2011 and Ubuntu and hplip have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 777218
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.
