I also have bug 1167484 opened with the hplip folks. Like I said, I'm new to Ubuntu and I was not shure whether this was a lplip problem or a CUPS problem. My suspicion is that it's "a probable user error" but I've run out of ideas so I've turned to the experts. Thank you.
