I can confirm it unfortunately doesn't work for the Vaio VGN FZ31M.
Furthermore, fn+F5 or fn+F6 doesn't even bring up the brightness OSD anymore when it did before (even though it didn't do anything obviously, which is the problem that brings us together here).
