I'm also seeing this problem in Gutsy. I put "hal" into the SERVICES field of /etc/default/acpi-support (to stop-start hal on suspend-resume). That appears to work. Can others confirm? (I also have ipw2200 white-listed, but do not know if that is necessary.)
