ahh im glad i found this thread, I installed jaunty on my sony AW series vaio (nvidia 9300m GS) - and the built in gnome brightness control had a cross over it and was ineffective -
so i have been using smartdimmer (preinstalled) to change it manually - but this gets tedious to use terminal after every reboot/watching a movie etc .
I read that you could make an applet for smartdimmer - but im not quite sure how to do this..Although the post is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=451781
I have another older sony laptop with intel gfx (onboard) and the gnome brightness slider works fine on that.
