Okay, I am finally able to automount the DVD-ROM and, have it playing DVD's or
read audio/data CD-Rom disks.

For what ever the reason, my user ID and those of my other users, were not in
the plugdev group (id 46). Looks like during the upgrade, plugdev did not
populate (for whatever reason).
After adding my UID to the plugdev group, the DVD-Rom became automountable. What
remains a mystery to me, is if this was the fix, then why would the CD R/W
automount/autoplay?
