Forgot to mention the flickering of the display like in the post before.

Very funny thing:

If I got to the console (STRG+ALT+F1) I can use

echo -n VALUE > /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness

to change the display backlight brightness (this change only affects X if I did /etc/init.d/gdm stop before this)
