I am having the same problem with a brand new MSI Wind U123. One odd thing is that the behavior did not start occuring until I upgraded the ram of the laptop from 1GB DDR2 667 to 2GB DDR2 800. It may have been coincedence. If there is interest I can swap the old stick back in and see if the problem persists.
Stopping gnome-power-manager stop the flickering, but obviously this is not a good solution
