After seeing a report on the desktop mailing list that pino works fine with identi.ca I ran some more tests, deleting "~/.cache/pino" and "~/.config/pino" after each test so I was starting from a clean state. I was wrong: pino does indeed work fine if you're only using identi.ca, or if you make sure to not add a Twitter account *before* adding an identi.ca account.
I'll leave pino running with both accounts to see if it'll eventually hang as it was doing before.
