I have noticed that two of the people, who have commented, report trying to copy video.
So I thought it might be helpful to note that I have the same problem, only it occurred for me while trying to copy audio (*.wav).

This occurs on a computer running Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit.

Copying through CLI gives input/output error,
copying through GUI gives splicing error,
resulting in corrupt files in the destination directory.
