Ok, I've managed to get past the signing problem by setting up a gpg by following the this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GnuPrivacyGuardHowto
The command line option 'Using GnuPG to generate a key' was straigt forward.
The script finishes with 'Successfully signed dsc and changes files', but I still get all the "unapplying" lines (don't know if that's a bad thing) and the ones that start with "W:"
When I try to run the .deb files I still get the same errors in the software centre.
