Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I have the base binary package of evolution installed and the emoticons show up as red X's. Even when you select the option to automatically insert smileys for html mail it still doesn't work. I don't know if this matters but I am not using the default Human theme of Feisty. I am trying out the BluBuntu theme.

I am using Feisty and have all recent updates applied. Evolution is version 2.9.92

Thanks.

I can confirm that this bug is in the version of evolution that gets installed when upgrading from edgy to feisty (evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2 && gtkhtml 3.14.1-0ubuntu2).

Specifically, with the feature "automatically insert smiley images" enabled, usually an emoticon will appear after typing a smiley in text (e.g. :( ). However, with this bug in place, all that appears is a red X.

I have the same issue and added a comment to the bug at GNOME.org (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419350) to indicate that the problem is back in version 2.10.1 of Evolution.
Reason for doing so is the fact that the bug at GNOME.org was initiated on Evolution 2.9.92

How do you add the smiley? Do you speak about bug #107985 which is about automatic smileys drawing?

I have replied also in BugZilla http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419350

The situation is basically the following:
When using the menu item the displayed emoticon is not always in line with the text (see attachment).
When using automatic text to emoticon conversion, the red cross is displayed.
Typing one backspace brings back the typed characters.

Today I received a notification from BugZilla (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419350) that a patch is available.
Will this patch also be incorporated in Ubuntu and, if so, is there an indication possible when?

@useResa: the patch has just been proposed, and has not yet been validated. So... we do not know, yet, when it will be available.

@hggdh: Thank you for clarifying.
Guess I'll just have to monitor this bug to follow the status.
Sure hope that a solution will be found shortly.

On gutsy, typing ";)" in new message, evolution is trying to open "/usr/share/gtkhtml-3.14/icons/smiley-3.png" but it does not exist in the package gtkhtml3.14.
apt-file search smiley-3.png shows the file only exists in gtkhtml-3.8.

Hope it will help
