Thanks for your elaborate comment and efforts, Christian. To answer your questions, the problem is permanent (not just after guest reboot), and the native resolution is 1920x1200.

Also, I would like to report some observations I made that indeed suggest that the issue is caused by my configuration. I booted the Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 live ISO images, installed qemu there and ran qemu with the options mentioned before with -display gtk in addition. In Ubuntu 22.04, I also installed the backport of qemu 7.0 and tried it. In all 3 cases, the problem does not appear, i.e., it is working fine.

I appreciate any hint about a which setting might cause the issue.
