Comment 43 for bug 387957

Just adding my support to those rallying for change on this issue.

I tried colas' script in the background, but whilst it does report that it's resetting location-mode, it doesn't seem to be solving the problem for me (on Jammy Jellyfish).

I also noticed there's another schema/key,
org.gtk.gtk4.Settings.FileChooser location-mode
so I tried running two copies of the script to cover both keys, but that's still not giving me any joy. Perhaps the issue is that I'm using awesomewm, but it's the same Save As dialog I'd have thought.

Either way - this is far and away the worst feature of Ubuntu for me - it bothers me every time I use it. My personal feeling is that all other cosmetic development on Ubuntu should be stopped until this issue - that must be used thousands - maybe millions? of times a day - is fixed.
