I'm not a Ubuntu fan, Gentoo here -- all from source with latest and greatest
-- but will download Oneiric i386 live cd tonight and give it a try.

... I'll try some debugging scenarios to see how it handles things as I'm
wondering if it's bad hardware or what.
I'm assuming no hacks or work-arounds are used to force PS Level 2 printing,
when PS Level 3 is specified.
