sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386

Did you issue this command manually? If you indeed are using 64bit Ubuntu as you stated in comment #4 (you can check by typing uname -srm in a terminal), then you are attempting to apt-get install the wrong architectural build of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. Instead of ending in i386 your command should end in something like x86_64 or x86-64.
