Hi ,

Thank You !

You were right . I changed server to the best one , and it
downloaded first time .

In case this happens to others , I'm in the UK and the best
server is in the Netherlands .

I am also using 3 mobile broadband , as this is all I have .

Thank you again , I have actually quite enjoyed solving
this problem . It was a good opportunity to learn about my
new OS .

PAX , John.

Subject: [Bug 511632] Re: Cannot download gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad

John, I'm sorry this is taking so long to resolve. I have a few more
questions for you so we can hopefully figure out the exact cause of the
problem.

1. Are you using a high-speed internet connection?

2. Are you using any kind of proxy for your internet?

3. Have you recently run the Update Manager or 'sudo apt-get update;
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' so your software is up-to-date? (If not, then
please do this first)

4. What servers did you try to download from before?

I also have another possible solution you can try:

If you go into the Software Center, then Edit -> Software Sources...,
you should get the same menu I had you pull up before. Could you select
"Other..." under "Download from:," but this time run "Select Best
Server" if you didn't before? This will cause your computer to try every
server and select the one with the best speeds (it might take a while if
your internet is slow). Then, you can try downloading the package again.
If that still doesn't work, then could you please try the
"astromirror.uchicago.edu" server under "United States"? Depending on
your location, this may cause slow downloads, but I have tried this
server personally and it has worked for me.

I know this is similar to what I had you try before, but the problem
seems to be with your network connection as opposed to a software issue
with either Software Center, Synaptic, or even the gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad package. By trying this possible solution and answering my
questions, we will have a better idea of whether or not the problem is
with the servers or with your computer (or still potentially something
else).

Again, I apologize for all of this inconvenience. I will continue to
consult with other members of the BugSquad team so we can hopefully find
a solution for you soon, or at the very least get your bug heard.

Thanks

Status in “gst-plugins-bad0.10” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad

When trying to download the gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad package ("GStreamerplugins for mms, wavpack, quicktime, musepack" in the Software Center), the package is unable to be downloaded. This problem occurs in the Software Center, Synaptic, and when attempting to install through the terminal. Each time, the program sits for a long time attempting to download the package, but eventually times out.

Switching mirror servers in Software Sources (and running 'sudo apt-get update' afterwards) has not solved the problem. The Software Center and Synaptic have had no trouble downloading and installing any other packages.
