I installed GRUB 2 already in Karmic. There where several kernel updates, which implied a GRUB menu update. there was never a problem.

But the update from 9.10 to 10.4 and a reboot produced the error "symbol `grub_puts_' not found".

There are an IDE and a SATA harddisk

neither sudo grub-install /dev/sdb nor sudo grub-install /dev/sda

helped but changing the boot order in the BIOS helped
