Comment 6 for bug 482757

I had this exact same problem except that the message says:

`the symbol '?set_more' not found.`

And there is a weird smiley face character before the question mark.

Any help on how I can get this machine up and running again would be helpful. I've tried a 9.10 live CD and it's still hanging. It would really stink if this killed my laptop.
