Menu at boot present but not visible

Bug Description

Grub menu is there, but not visible on screen, which is stuck on previous bios output. Installing 18.04 grub fixes the problem. Symptoms same as in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1836934

Also, my grub settings in /etc/default/grub (and running update-grub afterwards) are:

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="menu"
GRUB_TIMEOUT="10"

The menu still does not appear on screen, as described above.

Thank you for your bug report, why did you register a new bug if there is already an existing one that you pointed out though? Do you belive it's a different problem and why?

The other bug report has been marked as incomplete.

Any news on this? Not being to select the OS to be loaded should really be treated as a high priority bug.
