Ok. The fact that it's not reproducible on two systems of the same class
strongly points to a hardware problem. And if it's not a hardware problem,
it's probably a kernel problem since grub-probe itself doesn't do much
that's particularly interesting.
Can you please run the '/usr/sbin/grub-probe --device /dev/sda1
--target=fs_uuid' under strace, and attach the resulting debug output?
