This is still broken with 14.04 and the same patch seems to work:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Release: 14.04

$ apt-cache policy grub2
grub2:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1
