Bug Description

I am on Ubuntu12.04 Precise 64bit. This error occures the first time with a fresh seted up dual boot solution with Ubuntu12.10 64bit , which provided the grub2 2.0 bootloader which acting here. First install Ubuntu12.04 Precise 64bit than install Ubuntu12.10 Quantal 64bit to the same harddisk and use the grub2 2.0 bootloader from Quantal.

On system start Ubuntu12.04 from grub2 2.0 bootloader menu the system was not able to start.
The console output during booting shows a "mmio adress is already in use". The Ubuntu12.04 system does not complete it's boot sequence and went back to grub2 2.0 bootmenu. A second try from there with the 12.04 system gave a successfull system start.

An investigation in the kernel log of 12.04 shows:
Sep 23 17:37:32 userHost12041 kernel: [ 6.062901] SP5100 TCO timer: SP5100 TCO WatchDog Timer Driver v0.01
Sep 23 17:37:32 userHost12041 kernel: [ 6.062970] SP5100 TCO timer: mmio address 0xfec000f0 already in use

Before setting up the dual boot solution with Ubuntu12.10 Quantal 64bit this error never occure on a pure 12.04 Precise 64bit solution.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

The error does not seem to couse any misbheaviour execpt from the CD burner tray opens by itself after a minute or so after the boot, login or not. Nothing hard, but still not a perfect system as it used to be...

I can see the error message, but my system still boots fine.

Scenario is:

1. installed Ubuntu 12.04
2. installed Ubuntu Studio 12.04 => overrides GRUB from 1.
3. message shows during Boot (which looks like text-mode only).

Sasa Paporovic, as per http://us.msi.com/product/mb/760GM-E51.html#/?div=BIOS an update is available for your BIOS (1.A). If you update to this, does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.
