Following other webposts tried again with a custom install.
Used existing partitions.
Selected install Grub on sdc

Failed at the same point with the error

"The 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/. Without the GRUB boot loader, the installed system will not boot."

The went to installer crashed message box- it then locked and would not proceed to file the failure report.
