You attempted to install grub on /dev/md0p1, which is not possible. You must install grub to the underlying physical disk(s), i.e. /dev/sda.

@psusi: Maybe so. However that is outside the scope of this ticket, which only refers to Ubiquity's behavior when grub-install fails. Please revert status.

That is very much by design: the installation did not complete successfully so this failure is reported.

The issue is not the error message itself. The issue is that ubiquity thinks that the grub-install dialog was successful when it really was not, so it keeps going.
