For those who are struggling with this in feisty, a way around this bug is the following:
1) Go to System -> Preferences -> Removable Drives and Media
2) Disable "Mount removable media when hot-plugged" and "Mount removable media when inserted". (I also disable the option "Browse removable media when inserted", but this should not be necessary.)
3) Close
4) Start Gparted: System -> Administration -> GNOME Partition Editor
When you have finished, you can enable the options in step 2)
