aptitude show gnustep-icons provides a link to a web page that does not exist.

Binary package hint: gnustep-icons

I type, at my trusted shell prompt

   aptitude show gnustep-icons

The text that gets displayed announces (among other things):

> Homepage: http://www.lindesay.co.nz/page_community.shtml

Expected behaviour: Under that link, I can access the home page.

Behaviour seen: Checking that web address leads to 404 page not found.

Suggested fix: If the new home page can no longer be found, simply remove that line.

The version of gnustep-icons that shows this problem is version 1.0-4.

I do not actually need to have that package installed.

The system here is Ubuntu 9.10.

You may have, at one point, provided some content under http://www.lindesay.co.nz/page_community.shtml . (I'm admitedly guessing somewhat.) Nowadays, there is nothing is to be found there any longer.

The absence of that page has made it into an Ubuntu bug report. The details are at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnustep-icons/+bug/529959 .

I filed that report a moment ago. As it try hard to retain the habit of not talking behind people's back, I thought I should let you know. That's what this mail is about.

If this catches your interest, you may find the W3C's famous "cool URL" essay worth your attention. This can be found at http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI .

As I mentioned, all of this is strictly for your information only. I'd certaily appreciate if you'd act on this and somehow solved the problem. But quite as certainly there is no need, in any real sense of the word, for you to do so, should you feel either unable, or uninclined, or both, to do so.
