The new version is available in Ubuntu 16.10 Beta:

From my initial look, it doesn't look to me like 2.1.12 or higher releases qualify for a Stable Release Update. If you have specific bugs and/or specific patches you need for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, you're welcome to file bugs for those.
