there is no debugging package for the moment for gnomevfs, that was pending for
some time
because of different reasons but now seems to be the right time to make this
change, I'll upload
it soon.

You can build a debug package with that:
$ apt-get source gnome-vfs2
$ apt-get build-dep gnome-vfs2
$ cd gnome-vfs2-2.8.3
$ DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="nostrip noopt" dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

BTW I don't have such problem here connection some samba shares but I don't have
a w2k to
make tests, I'll try with a winXP box soon
