Hi Pedro,
 Thank you for getting back so quickly.

This is the output of ls -las on /var/log/apt

$ ls -las /var/log/apt/
total 84
 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2008-12-08 00:48 .
 4 drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 2008-12-09 08:20 ..
20 -rw------- 1 root root 16573 2008-12-09 08:32 term.log
56 -rw------- 1 root root 49825 2008-12-01 01:22 term.log.1.gz

In fact gnome-system-log should ask me for superuser's password which
it doesn't but that I guess is another bug.
