No, it is not (merely) documentation, but a functional change since 9.04.
In 9.04, the logout/reboot thingie's "About" says "Fast User Switch Applet 2.24.0", and it's right-click menu has "Preferences", which includes a check-box option "Show confirms for logout, restart and shutdown".
But in 9.10 the logout/reboot thingie says it is "indicator-applet-session 0.1" and it HAS NO Preferences in the right-click menu.
So that widget seems to have been completely replaced with something which is missing important features.
