Okay, thanks Alex, that clarifies things quite a lot. I guess Xterm and its sisters have repurposed the kfX strings. It might help for terminfo(5) to clarify this situation (even though it really isn't ncurses' responsibility to do so, since that's not the original meaning of those names; still, it does briefly address XTerm/DEC mouse handling).

What I've said up until now actually does apply to the other special keys (such as cursor keys), though, but that's irrelevant to this bug.
