The window borders (as of Ubuntu 10.10) of all applications are extremely thin.
Because of this it is very hard to 'catch' them with a mouse in order to resize the window.
A possible solution is to use a resize grip (that small area at the bottom right corner of some windows which implement it). This resize grip should be displayed and handled by the *window manage*. That way all resizeable windows will have it.
It is instructive to see how Mac OS X did it. They got that one right.
