Yes, you have to change something the second time. For instance, going to properties, erasing the IP address and typing it in again doesn't do it.
As for the checkbox. I do steps 1, 2, and 3 as in the initial report. Then I launch network-admin, uncheck the box, and recheck the box. Now the interface is correctly set up.
