Please not for me this bug prevents me from performing updates to system.
i can only run Ubuntu, with Linux 4.8.0-54-generic.

If i run the 4.10.0-24 or 4.10.0-22 the system will halt at a black screen and go no farther.
Also if i attempt to install updates or repair anything in the system; the two above linix version loaders change. Originally they were 4.10.0-10 and 4.10.0-13.

The only thing that libpam-systemd postinst does is call

pam-auth-update --package

and it calls normal #DEBHELPER# stuff.

Is debconf / pam-auth-update broken in zesty?

This is probably due to missing gnome-software update

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1688721

please install gnome-software from zesty-proposed; or upgrade these packages using command line. E.g.:

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
$ sudo apt full-upgrade
