Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release: 16.04

ubuntu-software:
  Installiert: 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2
  Installationskandidat: 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2 500
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What is supposed to happen:
The new Ubuntu Software (Center) is supposed to show me all software that is part of the used repositories, all packages that can also be found using "apt-cache dump". It is supposed to show me the version number of the package and the size. It is supposed to letting me abort a download or installation (for example if the download takes to long). It is supposed to show me that the software is installed after an installation is finished.

What is happening:
The new Ubuntu Software (Center) cannot find certain software (e.g. Wine or Steam). It is, however, possible to install such software using the terminal. Version number and size are not shown (it seems that it endlessly tries to calculate the size, the version field remains just blank). It is not possible to abort an installation. If an installation is finished, sometimes the status "installed" is not shown until the computer is rebooted. This seems to happen randomly (it happened for me with packages for the programs Geany, GHex and some others).

Many of your problems are fixed in a new release which is being prepared now: https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-software/+sourcepub/6363890/+listing-archive-extra

I'm closing this compound bug. If you still have issues not addressed by the new release please log a separate bug for each of them, and please do a quick search first as there is likely to be an existing bug open.

Changed in gnome-software (Ubuntu):

The main complaint seems to be that Gnome Software doesn't show all packages. This is a design choice. Only GUI apps with .desktop files are meant to be shown. This has been brought up before, so I have marked this as a duplicate.

The two bugs for missing size and version info were fixed in bug #1564621 and bug #1571414

The two remaining issues are:

Bug #1551599 - Remove button missing after package installation
Bug #1574057 - Can not abort installation
