@Alexander Ast, attached is the xsession-errors that resulted from a condition 2 problem (background, with title bar, red network icon, and no cursor,). ctrl-alt-bckspc corrected problem.

for this error: the directory /usr/lib/at-spi does not exist, but the directory /usr/lib/at-spi2-core does exist, and the file /usr/lib/at-spi2-core/at-spi2-registryd does exist.
