Don't know if I should rather open another bug for this, but I still have the problem with an up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04 - but only with users that are defined over LDAP.
We have the following setup: There are two users that are administrators, and for the case that LDAP breaks down there is also a local user for each of us. There are also a lot of other users which are not administrators. Our usual users as well as the fact that they belong to the groups sudo and admin are defined via LDAP, the local users are just for emergencies. Now if I try to do something that requries authentication, I get promted to enter the password of the local user of the other administrator, which I do not know.
So it seems for the usual case where the administrators are local users this got fixed, the dialog asks for the current user's password there. But two problems that are still present are 1. polkit thinks a user that is defined over ldap is not authorized and 2. if polkit thinks a user is not authorized it still does not give the possibility to choose a specific administrator. If only one of these problems were present (p.e. if the dialog would implement a dropdown list like in gnome 2), I would be able to work around this.
