switching applications between normal and fullscreen got slower and also it won't remember position and size of the window on exiting fullscreen compared to gnome 3.x. Can also confirm this on a 20.04 installation with gnome 40 installed and rolled back, that this is a degradation for gnome-shell 40 on wayland sessions. Xorg session is working fine.
