When logging into Ubuntu's main login screen there is a toggle to show the password (the little eye on the right side of the password input box). If the previous user enabled this when logging in and left this in an enabled state, that state will persist. The next user logging in, after the previous logged out, will type his or her password and it will be plainly visible on screen.

Consider that:

- Typing passwords is often routine (a new user might often not notice in time his or her password appears unmasked)
- The state of the eye icon might not be clear by itself
- Password masking not being enabled by default is not standard, and for good reason

This happens when logging into Ubuntu (Focal Fossa 20.04) on a default install.
