If you can then please try the latest stable release of Gnome Shell by installing Ubuntu 18.10. But only if it is convenient.

If you don't or can't find that the problem is fixed in a later release already then please report it to the developers here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues

with details of the symptoms and the error message. And then tell us the new bug ID.
