Bug Description

after upgrade to ubuntu 18.10, when resuming from lock (eg re-opening laptop lid), before typing password (or indeed anything), the whole desktop including running apps is displayed. although they are not interactable/responsive, sensitive info is displayed.

possibly related, super+l seems to put the desktop into a similar state - apps visible, but not interactable. pressing it a second time produces a more normal lock reaction.

gnome-shell: Installed: 3.30.1-2ubuntu1

Thanks for the bug report. You seem to have found exactly the right existing bug reports but both of those are closed for the case of Gnome Shell on Ubuntu. So let's use this bug for now.

Next, please run this command to send us more information about the system:

  apport-collect 1800352

Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

hi there, i've been trying to find the time to do a little video, but in the meantime i have some more details:

- related bug: pressing lock (super+l) does effectively "lock" the machine in that it prevents input/interaction, but does not hide the desktop. pressing it a second time displays the lock screen

- further detail: bug where desktop is displayed only happens to me when I close the laptop lid, rather than locking it manually, presumably because when I lock I hit super+l twice because of the above.

- to resume from "broken-lock" i need to press the lock key to display the password input screen.

@hjwp2 - FWIW, for me it does bring up the lock screen but it's still bugged, as--while I cannot interact with them once they're started--I am able to start applications in the Gnome Dock and as well as interact with any Gnome Activities Bar widgets.

Depending on what's on your dock, I suppose this could be "bad".

(Eh, where "it" is hitting Super+L a second time. The first time of course just freezes the screen, as reported.)

I do have the same bug and ran apport-collect 1800352 on my system. It also happens if I use the dropdown menu at the right of the top bar to lock the screen.

Workaround:
I can send my use the "pause"-symbol to start hibernation/suspension (I'm not sure which) and after waking up the OS again I'm able to log in again.

I added a couple pictures.

Greetings,

Charles
