Same thing here.

I notice when the inactive time period is reached, the screen fades to black, then turns off. My GUESS is that nothing tells it to fade back up to color -- that the lock screen is actually displayed (as evidenced by hitting enter to roll it up, and then password + enter to get back into your session), but with a black overlay on it.
