You can debug gnome-settings-daemon crashes/exits using Apport (read here how to enable it: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#How_to_enable_apport).

This service will generate crash reports and promt you to file a bug in Launchpad. Once you did it, please add its number in a comment.
