Affecting me as well. The time applet freezes at boot time and launched applets are not displayed, which only happens when something hangs at boot time.

I removed 'quiet splash' from my /etc/default/grub file, at I can't determine what is hanging. I've removed the attached devices one by one, and all that changes is when it hangs. A 'normal' boot - when it happens - goes to the limited fsck quickly.

Logging out seems to alleviate the problem as well on my system. Lucid will also not shut down on both computers that are running it, if there is any relation to this problem.
