rm -R ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session
works as a workaround but is a no-go for usability and new users.
This bug is more than three years old and still not fixed.
Another point is: The man page of "gnome-session" is wrong:
"When saving a session, gnome-session saves the currently running applications in the $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/gnome-session/saved-session directory.
But the $XDG_CONFIG_HOME is unset. gnome session saves in ~/.config/gnome-session/saved session which is not mentioned in the man page.
I can confirm this bug on jaunty.
