I also confirm this bug when I upgraded from Ubuntu Feisty to Ubuntu Gutsy Beta.
I also tried to manually install pulse-audio and ESD(Only the packages, no configuration).
lspci output:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
This is onboard sound on Intel DG965RY Motherboard. All other sounds work fine
