I am running tribe5 with all the updates as of 2007-Sep-06 noon HST, and I still have this problem.
sudo ifdown lo
sudo ifup lo
seems to make the response to a quit work at normal speed.
I also have the problem that when I right click, I cannot open a terminal. The option is there but nothing happens.
Also, if I quit and then log back in, I never get logged back in.
